Palak Paneer is one of the most popular spinach recipes in India. Palak paneer, a vegetarian dish originating from Punjab (India) is a smooth creamy delicious gravy made from pureed spinach seasoned with garam masala and other spices

Its an easy healthy dish which you can whip up in less than 30 minutes. You can make so many variations of it by taking out or adding a couple of ingredients. You can also make it extra healthy and vegan by replacing Paneer with Tofu and cream with coconut milk. Its an easy way of incorporating more spinach into your daily diet. It pairs best with Roti/Naan but you can also pair it with Jeera rice or any other simple rice dish. Its also important not to use too many spices in Palak paneer, because when the spices are low it brings out the beautiful flavour of spinach. You can either blanch the spinach or not before pureeing, some people prefer blanching it because it removes any oxalate from the spinach. But if you like your palak paneer to be a bright green colour, do not blanch the spinach before pureeing it.

Paneer is cottage cheese made by curdling milk with a vegetable-derived acid, such as lemon juice. But the cottage cheese available at the supermarkets are not the same as paneer. You can buy authentic paneer at Indian stores or you are ready to put in some effort you could do it yourself at home too.

Simple Palak Paneer

This simple palak paneer recipe is as yummy as it looks. There are step-by-step instructions with pictures, so its pretty easy to follow. In this recipe the spinach is coarsely blended to get some texture but you can try blending into a very smooth paste to get a smooth rich gravy. Some people like it like that but I like my palak paneer to be in a very smooth consistency. I like this recipe because it uses very less spices and hence the dish brings out the true flavours of spinach. The cream added at the end neutralises any bitterness of spinach but you could easily skip it if you eat a lot of spinach and are used to its flavour. Or you could even substitute it with yogurt or coconut milk for a healthy alternative.

Restaurant style Palak Paneer

This is one of my favourite palak paneer recipe. It gives you authentic punjabi flavoured palak paneer. Along with detailed step-by-step pictures, there are also details on how exactly to blanch the spinach so that you still retain that gorgeous green colour. It also has suggestions like not to add too many spices which give colour (like turmeric, chilli powder)

Instant Pot Palak Paneer

This recipe is for people who have an instant pot. Its perfect for those weeknight dinners, takes just about 20 minutes including prep and cook time. This recipe doesn’t have step pictures, but its pretty easy to make that you might not really need the pictures. I would dial down the turmeric powder and chilli powder though because they mask the taste of spinach and also you’ll not get that bright green colour in your palak paneer.

Palak Paneer Pressure Cooker Version

Dump everything in a pressure cooker and a delicious meal is ready in 10 minutes. Who doesn’t like that? This pressure cooker version palak paneer is super quick to make and turns out amazing. You could substitute jalapeno with green chillies. And if you dont mind the cream, you can add a tablespoon of cream at the end to give that rich creamy flavour.
